Google SEO and hummingbird

Last month Google revealed their new algorithm, Hummingbird.  This was engineered to be more precise and deliver faster search results. This new search algorithm will focus on complete search terms, not just key words.

Hummingbird is a brand new way for Google to search the web.  This is the first time since 2001 that Google has completely changed it’s algorithm. Your search phrases word for word will now be analyzed along with linkability across social networks.  Content has never been as important as it is now. This update allows Google to better understand searches done by all users.  This really means people on the go, and searching from mobile devices.  The search will analyze whole search terms like spoken queries.  Google is preparing for mobile in a big way.  That means your website should be prepared as well.

It is predicted that mobile use will overtake desktop computer use by 2015.  This means your website should be mobile friendly.  What this means for SEO. Content is still king.  Publish good quality original content and make sure that it is accessible via mobile devices. Keywords are moving down in terms of importance.  You still need them, but Google won’t rank them as high in the algorithm.

If you are creating a new website, it’s time to keep in mind that users will be accessing this content on mobile devices.  Each year the number of users visiting websites from mobile is increasing.  With Google’s more in-depth algorithm, smaller to the point posts can be as relevant as one long keyword rich articles.

It’s time to start planning your next website update.  Even if that update won’t happen for a few years.  Mobile is the new black, and you should be planning on your next re-design being mobile friendly.  Not just for looks, but for SEO as well.
