Google expanding use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal

Starting Arpril 21st, Google is going to start using mobile-friendly as a ranking signal.  For many of us who have been using smart phones and ipad’s for years, this will give us a better overall web experience.

“When it clogo_col_874x288omes to search on mobile devices, users should get the most relevant and timely results, no matter if the information lives on mobile-friendly web pages or apps” (from Google).

We have all experienced a bad website using our cell phones.  You know when all you want to do is look up a company, and you find yourself doing finger stretchs across the screen in hopes of reading text.  Maybe you wanted to click the phone number and have it go straight to the phone call.

What does this mean for small business owner?  If you don’t like the way your site operates on a mobile device, Google isn’t going to either.  Google will go one step further and show sites in search that are mobile-friendly higher than your website.  Users will find mobile friendly websites easier when searching from mobile devices.

Google has a Mobile-Friendly Test tool. Start testing your website today, and then talk to us about getting your site “mobile-friendly”.
